COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
NOTE, MEETING TIME IS 6:15 PM.
The new meeting time is scheduled early to allow the members to be elected, and installed plus perform the Memorial Service for our departed comrades that left us this past year.
So, please don’t forget and show up late. Pizza will be served after the meeting.
We are Happy to say Baseball day is August 10, 2008, at 1:30 PM. We will send out notices in June. It’s on a Sunday afternoon on the first base side plus we will have 30 handicapped tickets for wheelchairs. More information later.
It’s that time of year again. Poppies are in the air. I hope all of you saw the write-up in the D&C on Thursday. We will have the County Declaration on the 14th downtown at the Monroe County Executive Office. More details will be available later. Remember, to be fair to your fellow comrades and don’t tread on someone else‘s area. We have the whole month of May, so be diligent but fair. This is the time to replenish your Relief Funds to be able to carry out your community activities for the year. Tell Ed Penrose and Don Makely thanks for their help in publicizing the program in the local media this year.
Membership is looking good with a few post at 100% and thanks to 8th District helping out a few posts that were close with active duty personnel from Fort Drum, we are getting there. Post #11118 were at 100% in membership a few months ago and is well on its way to a white hat. Remember, all of your reports have to be in plus a contribution to the State Commanders Special Project and ordering Buddy Poppies are a must, in order to be considered. There are a limited number of white hats to be allocated, so be vigilant this year, go for it.
The 8th District Convention will be held at Perinton-Memorial Post # 8495 on Sunday, June 8th at 2:00 PM. Lunch will be served after the meeting in the Pavilion area for a $5.00 donation.
The State Convention is also coming up, so make sure all of your dues are paid up. Your post delegates can not vote at the conventions if you are not current in your dues. We need all of our delegates to be up to the challenge if and when they are called on to represent us.
Sincerely; Richard
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Sisters;
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful spring weather! It seems so nice to see the flowers blooming after all that snow. I hope you all have a Happy Mothers Day.
The May Monroe County Ladies Auxiliary meeting will be held on May 6, at 200 West Avenue at noon. We will be having elections, so keep in mind anyone you would like for the new year, 2008-2009.
Your quarterly audits should be completed and mailed to Dept. Treasurer, Marianne McLane. Your Auxiliary should have had election of officers and have sent in the installation reports for the 2008-2009 year to Dept. Secretary, Sharon Connelly. She will send you the warrants. You also need to send the names of your county and district delegates and alternate for the coming year to the County and District Secretaries.
Congratulations to all newly elected and appointed officers for the year 2008-2009.
May 4th is Loyalty Day. Monroe County Council will celebrate this day and honor our high school students at the Wishing Well. I hope many can attend.
Year-end programs reports are due by May 10th to their Department Chairman.
Hope to see many of you at the County Council meeting on May 6th and at the city parade on May 26.
Loyally, Grace Pulver
TONY’S REPORT
MAY 1, LOYALTY DAY
Loyalty Day originally began as “Americanization Day” in 1921 as a counter to the Communists’ May1, 1930 celebration of the Russian Revolution. On May 1, 1930, 10,000 VFW members staged a rally at Union Square to promote patriotism. Through a resolution adopted in 1949, May 1 evolved into Loyalty Day. Observances began in 1950 on April 28 and climaxed May 1 when more than five million people across the nation held rallies. In New York City, more than 100,000 people rallied for America. In 1958 Congress enacted Public Law 529 proclaiming May 1 Loyalty Day.
Hope to see all of you Sunday at the Wishing Well Party House.
Tony
