MONROE COUNTY VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS AND AUXILIARY

NOW HEAR THIS

County Council Meeting, Tuesday, June 3, 2008, 6:15 PM  at County Headquarters, 200 West Ave. Rochester, NY.

County Council Auxiliary will meet at 12:00 Noon, on June 3, 2008 at the County Headquarters, 200 West Ave. Rochester, NY.

 COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

NOTE, MEETING TIME IS 7:00 PM.

To all Post Commanders, any one holding an office has to give the Commander or Adjutant proof of eligibility. This year when we are inspected, we want to make sure all that information is  on file.

The Convention is a few weeks away. It will be in Binghamton on June 25-29. George Whitfield will be going in as 8th District Commander. We are in for a good year with George. He will be using the County office as his 8th District office. Let’s get behind him and support him for some changes. This hasn’t been a good year for the District.

The office will be open through the summer months and we will be working on the OTI Program. A letter will be sent out in August or early September with the details. This is not only for Officers, but for everyone that wants to learn about the VFW and how it works. It will be a one day affair and not a waste of time as some has suggested.

Baseball Day is Sunday,  August 10th at 1:00 PM. Tickets will be in the office. See George or Tony. A letter will be out next month.

Remember 8th District meeting on June 8th in Fairport. There will be a Picnic Lunch after the meeting for $5.00 per person.

I would like to say thanks to our County President, Grace Pulver. We had a great year. Thanks for your support.

Let’s not forget our 8th District President, Marita Fredette, both women are first class and they are all Auxiliary VFW.

As we break for the summer, remember your membership, we help our veterans that are in need of assistance. 745 Veterans passed away in Monroe County last year.

I know of a few posts that are having problems. Please call the office, maybe we can help. That’s what we are here for. Don’t chance losing your Charter over minor mistakes.

Posts that made 100%, nice job. The County will end the year at about 95%.

As I said before, thank you for your support. Tony, for his help all year as an advocate, Don Makely and all past Commander’s  and officers.

Next year will be my last year, help me be the best.

Richard

TONY’S REPORT

Let’s give credit where credit is due!

The weekend of Memorial Day was a busy one for our family.

On Sunday, May 25th, a delegation of members of Kirk Otis post # 1457, and their wives and friends, led by Commander Guy Tarquinio, met at Holy Apostles Catholic Church where they were included in the regular church service. The post colors were prominently displayed on the Alter and the members, smartly dressed with their VFW caps on, proceded down the center aisle. After the VFW was acknowledged by the presiding Priest, Past Post Commander, Tony Galetto, gave a brief but touching commentary about Memorial Day and its true meaning. The Service concluded with the playing of taps. Well done, Post 1457.

The city parade included our VFW Poppy Princesses accompanied by County Commander Rick Gross, Junior Vice Commander, Don Makely, and Marita Fredette, County Auxiliary Past President.

Pennington-Moye Post #9251, as usual, had the largest veteran delegation of post and auxiliary members, led by Commander George Whitfield and President Cynthia Tarver.

My special credit goes to Patchen-Briggs Post 307 and Commander Jim Vanderpool. This Post, after giving up their Post Home due to financial problems, has risen from the ashes, so to speak, and under Commander Vanderpool, are making a welcome and great come back. They meet now at the American Legion Forty-and –Eight Club. The post was well represented in the City Parade with a sharp Color Guard Float, and a Marching contingent.

We know that the Town Posts had their own Memorial Day activities. Good write up on Commander Andrew Strawhand of Penfield Post in the D& C. Perinton Memorial Post always has an impressive Service and Ceremonies at Potter park in Fairport.

Commander Peter Verzillo of Hilton Post, I am sure, was involved with Memorial Services n that Village and Rice Hallick Post in Henrietta was prominent in that Town’s Memorial Day Parade. To the other Towns and Villages not mentioned, I know your Services were a credit to the memory of those whom we remember with fondness especially on Memorial Day.
