COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
Dear Comrades,
The Annual Picnic/Ballgame will be held August 8th, 2009 at Ira Jacobson American Legion Post. Picnic begins at 11 AM and the ballgame at 1:25 PM.
Looking back on the past year, I would like to thank all the Commanders and Auxiliary Presidents who participated in the various County Activities.
We had many accomplishments including, two Banquets and both a State second place winner in the Voice of Democracy Youth Oral Essay Contest and a District Winner for the Patriot’s Pen Written Essay Program. Monroe County Veterans also distributed close to 60,000 Buddy poppies this past month.
As many of you already know, George Whitfield will be leaving us in the early part of July. He has truly been as asset to me and the Council in more ways than I can mention. On behalf of the Council, I would like to wish him well and say “THANK YOU”.
I would also like to thank our new Quartermaster for his diligence. I am thankful to him for coming forward to assist us in this role.
We have lowered the County Liability Insurance Premium by eliminating numerous riders attached to the original policy. We went from around $800 to $325.
Recruitment was above average and in the eight districts in the Department of New York between 3rd and 8th, . It was a difference of around 1%.
We also accomplished 100% physical inspections of all posts.
This is to remind all posts Quartermasters that the Election Reports are due at the National, Department and County, and all posts are to register at least one Delegate to the National Convention, Failure to do either of these two things will jeopardize your post Charter. National will suspend any post that fails to adhere to these two by-laws
In closing, let me again thank those who participated in the numerous activities and supported the Monroe County Council over the past year.
We hope to see you at the Picnic/ Ballgame in August.
God Bless America. Go Bless the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Don Makely, Commander
